Whether from condensation in a humid environment or intrusion from the outside, water does not belong on your FieldKit hardware and can cause damage.

First, disconnect the battery and the solar panel if you’re using one. Next, disassemble the station boards completely, including the upper and lower boards and the module boards and module base, and place everything in a bag of dry, uncooked rice overnight. The next day, wipe the boards board and reassemble. Connect the station to a battery and power it on. Execute a self check (see: How do I perform a Self Check or Self Test on my station?) and if everything looks good, you can redeploy the station in the field.

Next, try to identify and alleviate the source of the water. Check the wake button, cable glands, and case gasket and clasps to make sure everything is watertight. Any opening to the outside is bad for FieldKit!

If you suspect humidity is the cause, you may want to consider using desiccant inside the FieldKit case. Our recommendation is a refreshable aluminum dehumidifier canister (such as those manufactured by Dry-Packs) but any desiccant that doesn’t interfere with the hardware will work.
